Taking the step to talk to someone, requires significant courage and trust. As counsellors, we hold this important decision with the utmost respect and professionalism, adhering to ethical and clinical competencies governing all registered clinical counsellors. The CEC offers various options for counselling according to the needs of our clients including:
Individual Counselling
Our counsellors are trained extensively in a full range of therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, art therapy, and a multitude of other fancy psychological names . However, the MOST important aspect of counselling is that you feel safe and can trust the person you are sharing your story with. Subsequently, the counsellors that work at the Center for Excellence in Counselling (CEC) are selected because of their ability to be caring, compassionate, warm and genuine individuals that will connect easily with you.
Couple Counselling
Couple counselling requires working with counsellors that have received additional training to work with some of the complexities and dynamics that affect the daily ebbs and flows of relationships. Counsellors at the CEC have received formal training in couple specific areas. Some examples of this include: Gottman therapy, emotional-focused couple therapy, and family systems.
Family Counselling
Families are complicated units that contribute considerably to how we understand ourselves and our identities. Today’s understanding of family has transformed over the years, and counsellors have needed to adapt accordingly. Counsellors who work with families at the CEC are specifically trained to work from a variety of theoretical backgrounds including Bowen family systems theory, Adlerian theory, Satir, and narrative therapy. If you would like to learn more about family counselling, please contact Dr. Briar Schulz.
Group Counselling
Group counselling is a wonderful way to connect with other people who are struggling with similar issues, and to learn some effective strategies to manage in a short space of time. Many people find the collective group experience invaluable and a unique way to build their support system. CEC offers many group options, including art and phototherapy groups, supporting your loved ones with eating disorders, grief recovery, children going through parental separation/divorce, children with anxiety, and caregiver support, among many others. To enquire about any of these groups or others, please contact Dr. Briar Schulz.
Online Counselling
Thanks to the ever evolving world of technology, people can now access counselling services from the comfort of their living room couch. Through CEC, counsellors are trained to provide effective online counselling to applicable clients through email, phone or online live chat. All counsellors have received theoretical and practical training in using specific strategies and skills to enhance the online therapeutic relationship, and research has found that online counselling is as effective as face-to-face services. However, some client situations/issues are better served in a face-to-face counselling environment, and this is an important decision to be made between the counsellor and client. If you are interested in learning more about receiving online counselling, please contact Dr. Briar Schulz to see if this option will work for you.
